Obituary for Evelyn Emily Scales (Speight)
Evelyn E. (Speight) Scales, 93, of Sand Plain Road, Charlestown, passed away at the Westerly Hospital on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was the loving wife of 73 years to the late Donald Scales, who predeceased her just three months ago.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Speight.
She took great joy in traveling to NH with her husband in hopes of seeing the elusive moose. She enjoyed feeding the humming birds that would return each summer, and loved the beauty of her favorite flower the orchid.
She leaves behind her two children, Steven W. Scales and his wife Laurie of Westerly and Sherry L. Scales of Charlestown, her granddaughter Jessica Scales of Gaithersburg, MD, and her favorite cat quadruple grand champion “Mowglis Aquinnah the Eskimo” whom she loved deeply.
A Funeral Service will be held at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 So. County Trail, Exeter at 12:30p.m. on Monday September, 18th. Attendees are asked to arrive by 12:15p.m. outside the RIVMC Admin. Bldg. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in charge of the arrangements.
