Obituary for Richard R. Sorensen
Richard Rodgers Sorensen of Beach Street, Westerly, RI passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Westerly Hospital. He was 83.
Rick was born in Westerly and was a graduate of Stonington High School. He was an alumnus of Babson College in Wellesley, MA, and held a Master’s Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford, CT. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club International in Newington, CT, and the Granby Gun Club. Rick worked as Accountant Auditor for Pratt & Whitney for twenty-five years before retirement.
He was predeceased by his son, Erick, who passed away in January of 1970.
He is survived by his son Richard Sorensen and wife Laura and grandchildren, Madeleine, Stephen, Nicholas, all of Simsbury, CT; daughter Kristine and son-in-law Joseph Gillette and grandchildren, Kari & Patrick Clarke and great-granddaughter Carter Jean, Oxford, MS; David & Missy Ploszaj and great-grandson, Emmett, Manchester, CT; Jack Ploszaj, Boise, ID; and former wife Sandra Sorensen of Avon, CT. He also leaves a sister Linda Christina in Weekapaug, RI, as well as a niece and several nephews.
Rick loved his family and church, Pilgrim Baptist Church, Ashaway, RI. He enjoyed reading, photography, traveling and keeping in touch with old friends.
Rick was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
