Obituary for John L. Urso

John L. Urso, Sr., 80, beloved husband for fifty-two years of Anna (Chiaradio) Urso, of Shore Road, Westerly, died November 28, 2010 in the Westerly Hospital.
Born in Westerly he was a son of the late Angelo and Philomena (Morrone) Urso.
A Korean War veteran, honorably discharged following two years of service John was the owner and operator of Urso’s Arco Gas Station on Main St. for twenty-five years and upon its closing, he was employed by the Town of Westerly Water Department for over twenty years.
John was a communicant of St. Clare Church and a lifelong member of the Calabrese Society and the V.F.W. Post #8955. He loved the game of golf and took great pride in his yard work.
He also leaves his two sons Angelo J. Urso and Peter J. Urso and daughter Debra M. Carey and her husband Jack all of Westerly, grandchildren Beau, Michael and William Urso, Kaela, Tessa, Maura and John Carey and Jonathan Urso; his siblings Angelo “Bubba” Urso and his wife Connie, Mary Lawton, Lena (Gervasini) Pescatello and her husband Joe.
He was predeceased by a son John L. Urso, Jr. and by brothers Natale, and Frank Urso and sisters Margaret Lord and Elenor Sammataro.
Calling hours will be held today, Tuesday from 4-7p.m. in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Wednesday at 10a.m. in St. Clare Church, Crandall Avenue, Westerly.
