Obituary for Alessandro Gabriele
Alessandro Gabriele, 96, husband of the late Maria (Scavello) Gabriele, of Tower St., Westerly, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
Born in Acri, Province of Cosenza, Italy, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Luisa Gabriele.
He was a US Italian Army veteran of WWII where he was a POW for three years in Northern Africa. Alessandro came to America in 1970. Settling in Westerly, he worked in the Finishing Dept. of American Velvet for many years until his retirement and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. He was beloved by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved by all he encountered.
In addition to his wife Maria, he leaves his children, Giovanni Gabriele, Luisa Magliari, Adele Magliari, Anna Luzzi and Assunta Gencarelli, all of Westerly; a brother Georgio Gabriele of Temecula, California; two sisters, Anna and Maria Fusaro, both of Westerly; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Alessandro was predeceased by two brothers, Amadeo and Felice Gabriele; and a sister Immaculata Gencarelli.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly on Friday at 10am.
