Obituary for Barbara M. Evans (Mitchell)
Barbara Matilda Mitchell Evans, 85, of Groton, CT, peacefully passed away on March 3, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Stonington, daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Mitchell. She married her husband, William Charles Evans Jr. on Nov.22 1948.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband William and her two sons, Richard and Edward.
She is survived by five children, William Evans, Susan Roberts, Patricia Schuyler (James), Rose Carvalho (Tony), and Robert Evans (Dee); seventeen grandchildren, Kimmie, Kristie, Richie, Robbie, Katie, Jenn, Tammy, Chris, Erica, Stephie, Heather, Dawn, Tessa, Mikey, Willie, Emily and Sophie; nineteen great children, Amanda, Billy, Brianna, Cara, Danielle, Deanna, Kayla, Katrina, Hannah, Madison, Abbie, Sam, Tori, Jewelle, Amaya, Adeline, Regina, Lincoln and Kinsley; and two great-great grandchildren, Ayden and Lacey.
She retired from Bradlees in 1994. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with her husband and children and grandchildren. With a few trips to Disney for the kids and a few cross country to Vegas for the adults. She loved to crochet and play bingo and cards. Her biggest passion was her family, most of all her babies. She will be missed by her loving dog, Oreo and everyone that met her.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Gaffney- Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Service will take place in funeral home at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
